wow, the last week is such a blur now, but let me try to recall everything… wednesday night i had dinner in soho yet again at this semi-sichuanese place… it was pretty legit and the deco inside the restaurant was really nice. thursday we went for malaysian food somewhere in sheung wan before heading back to finish up packing and all that. then on our last night, i went to some food stalls in mong kok with amira and diana… the food was so cheap there and soooo good! mmm, fried squid. then we made our last trip to hui lau shan… gosh, i'm really gonna miss that place. i mean with all that yummy mango-goodness, who wouldn't?
so much food… we had to enjoy it all before we left hong kong, of course. friday night i went to a bar in ifc with some of the other citi interns. it was really nice to just sit there and chill and talk with all of them. we had gone to lunch earlier that day as well and it made me realize that i'm really gonna miss them all. one of the best parts of my internship was the people i met… all these interns from all over the world with all kinds of backgrounds and stories to tell. it was always cool to chill with them just to hear about their lives.
saturday i headed to shenzhen with jason, amira, vidur and jae. we stopped by window of the world (an amusement park) and got massages and manicure/pedicures for uber-cheap. just reminded me yet again how much i miss china… everything's so much cheaper than in hong kong. :-) then sunday we went to a really authentic
once i got back, i took a walk around central and tried to do/see everything one last time. i walked from the mtr station through hong kong park and to citibank tower. i had taken that walk so many times and it was weird doing it for the last time. i sat in the park for a bit and thought about the summer (that is until i moved to pacific coffee cuz there were too many darn mosquitoes). so much has happened this summer… i've learned a lot, met some awesome people, changed so much, and just experienced all these things that i otherwise never would have. i'm not even sure how to put this all down into words (haha, so i guess i won't for now), but this summer was a-MAY-zing and i'm definitely missing so many things about it already...

last friday, we took a change of pace and went to tsim sha tsui's knutsford terrace to do some bar-hopping rather than clubbing it up in lan kwai fong yet again. the bars there were actually really nice... good music, good company, and really funny drink names (haha like at this one place we got a round of shots that were called "baby mama dramas"). after a few drinks and then some really good friend udon and a tasty "milkshake," we headed back for the night. it was a lot more chill than most of our friday nights here, which was nice... really nice.
saturday was probably one of the most relaxing days i've had this summer... a bunch of us went for "afternoon tea" at the peninsula hotel (hong kong's oldest and probably nicest hotel) where they give you a tower of cakes, scones, truffles, finger sandwiches, etc. along with unlimited pots of your choice of tea. they even had a string quartet playing live in the background. it was very... posh... but quite fun. of course we got plenty of time to practice the art of drinking tea with your pinky up. :-) afterwards, we caught a bus over to repulse bay, a really nice beach on the south side of the island. then amira and i took a nice walk along the beach until the sun set... it was quite romantic, i must say. <3
that night, i had dinner at fat angelo's (mmm... italian food, my favorite) and then went bar-hopping a little before ending up at lux, another club in lan kwai fong and partying it up one last time with the bulldogs. :-) we ended up getting back to the dorms around 4am. and though i was supposed to be up and ready for this citi-sponsored junk boat trip the next morning, i didn't wake up until 4pm. haha. oh well, at least i got very very well rested. :-)
for dinner on sunday, most of the yale kids went on this dinner cruise in victoria harbor. it was an all-you-can-eat buffet with eight different kinds of cake! mmm... muy delicioso. they also had a live band playing and a pretty sweet dance floor plus an open viewing deck upstairs with gorgeous views of the island's skyline. :-) it was a really nice way to semi-celebrate the end of our program in hong kong. oh wow, i can't believe it's almost over. less than a week left... let's make the most out of it. :-)

for dinner, a bunch of us met up in soho (a district with a ton of restaurants) for lamb kebabs and tapas at this cuban restaurant... mmm... good. it was my first time in soho and on their large outdoor escalator that goes for a couple of blocks up the hill. there are soooo many good restaurants there... mmm, i kinda wish i had found this place earlier this summer. but it's okay, i can make up for it in these last two weeks. haha, we're actually going back tonight... for burritos! ay caramba!
yesterday i walked around festival walk (the giant shopping mall near our dorms) and realized yet again how much of hong kong is based on shopping malls. everybody here just loves to shop and spend money (i guess it's cuz they have lots of it), and it's not like tj-maxx style shopping... it's like gucci-prada-louis style (louis... vuitton, of course). literally, i can make my way from my office to just about any other building in central by walking through shopping malls... and only shopping malls. kind of ridiculous, actually. i wish i were rich enough to do more than just window-shop. :-P *sigh*
oh and p.s. i've become addicted to the pocky they sell in the basement of citibank tower. mmm... pocky. weee. :-)

so this weekend i went to taipei with ja-mei, suching, vidur, jason and jae. it was sweeeeeeeet. we flew out of hong kong on friday immediately after work and got to taiwan around 10ish. after checking in at the ferrary (yes, with a y) hotel, we headed straight for their biggest night market (shih lin) and ate soooo much good food. i had stinky tofu for the first time, but it actually wasn't that stinky. we also had really good bubble tea. mmmm.
we did most of the tourist-y stuff on saturday (which was also the hottest day in taipei history since 1921... 38.6 degrees celsius... ridic, i know). we started with the longshan temple where we got some incense sticks to pray with and vidur branded me by burning my arm with three of his sticks, leaving three scars that will probly be there for a while, if not forever. then we headed to the palace museum which had tons of exhibits. the coolest thing was this one sculpted piece of jade that looked exactly like a piece of cabbage. literally it was so for real. after the museum, we went to taipei 101, which is the tallest building in the world. but actually, there's a new building begin constructed in dubai now that will be taller than taipei 101 once finished and sunday was the day that construction on that building exceeded taipei 101's height, so we went on the very last day that taipei 101 was the tallest building in the world. :-) yay. plus, we picked the best time to go cuz when we got there it was still sunny and clear out so you could see a lot of the city and all the buildings around it but then we stayed long enough to watch the sunset... so nice...
afterwards, we had dinner at this other night market which also had some really cute shops with jewelry and trinkets and such, so i went shopping! :-) and the best part was everything was so cheap. hehe. later that night we headed out looking for a club/bar and ended up racking up a taxi bill of close to 1000 taiwan dollars before finally finding and choosing a place. we ended up at "babe18," which was actually a really nice club with a pretty big dance floor. but it kinda brought me back to middle school cuz all the girls would be dancing in one corner and all the guys in another, with very rare mingling. haha... kinda cute i guess. but meanwhile the six of us were all getting our groove on. :-P after a few hours there, we headed back to the area near our hotel and found a ktv, so we got a room and sang karaoke until 6 in the morning at which point we went straight back to the hotel and slept. like zzzzz.
yesterday we headed to the presidential palace (or actually it's just an office building) and the chiang kai-shek memorial. pretty cool places... actually, i take that back... pretty hot. it was ridiculously hot, actually... especially since we were walking outside most of the day... ugh. later, we had lunch at new york new york, a dept store in downtown taipei (that was the only lunch we didn't have in a night market). then we did a little shopping (and i took a nap on a couch in the store) and headed to the airport to catch our flight home... well, "home."
all in all it was a ridiculously fun trip. the food was aMAYzing. seriously. and it was really nice being able to speak mandarin everywhere. the cab drivers were also incredibly friendly and were always willing to talk to you (i had some quite interesting convos, i must say). their crosswalk displays were really cool too... it had a man walking when it was time to walk, but then as the countdown got closer to zero, the man would walk faster... haha. so cute. everybody rode on scooters (super-cool) and nobody followed the lanes in traffic (but at least they drive on the right side of the road unlike here in hk). their mrt (subway system) also has monkey calls as their signal for closing doors. haha, literally... it sounds like a laughing monkey.
so to sum up the trip, vidur came up with a team cheer on the ride back home from the airport. (please keep in mind that we were running on about 5 hours of sleep and an incredibly exhausting day in the heat). here's to team taipei:
t - a - i, p - e - i,
team taipei, flying high,
taipei 101, shih lin,
team taipei, we will win!

tuesday after work, a few of us headed to the night market in yau ma tei to look at all the "quality goods" they sell there. everything from cell phones to diaries to man thongs to statues of chairman mao to bouncy-gooey balls to the sweet sounds of chinese opera music. haha. then we ended up in a snooker club right outside the market, but since none of us knew how that game worked, we just played pool instead. though i kinda feel like snooker is a lot cooler... it has more balls and a bigger table. woo-hoo.
wednesday is free-museum day here in hong kong, so we went to the art museum since they were having a special exhibit on ancient chinese scrolls and calligraphy. it was really crowded actually and we had to get into lines in order to see each scroll because people kept examining each one really intensely. i found it really interesting, actually, because all the paintings had very little color and quite a lot of blank space on the page, yet there was something about them that allowed them to effectively convey their message. plus, we got a free mini-copy of this really long and really famous scroll as a free souvenir. :-) after the museum, i headed back out to the island and went to dragon-i (another private club in lkf) with diana, di, and this citi intern named andrew. his uncle is one of the two owners of the club which is how he got us in. yay. then we got a bottle of champagne and just stood around chilling. pretty nice, pretty chill.
yesterday was probably my most exciting day at work in the past... six weeks. i got to sit on the trading floor with this stock-loan trader and he let me actually look stuff up on bloomberg and book trades into their system! i felt like i was in the middle of the movie, pursuit of happyness, cuz all these other traders around me were yelling across the floor and telling people to buy or sell or whatever. it was uber fast-paced and uber exciting considering the rest of my internship so far has consisted of sitting in front of a computer in an office and working with excel sheets. (oh baby, excel and i are very close now. we're like peas in a pod.)
after work, our team all went out for drinks and dinner at this really nice restaurant called "the crow's nest" in lkf. we rented out the entire top floor and had an open bar and a buffet dinner. so nice. :-) later that night a few of us tried doing early check-in for our taiwan trip, but by the time we made it to the check-in counters in hong kong station, they were already closed, so we just headed back home. along the way, we got to see this exhibit they were having about a hello-kitty-themed mtr car! it was completely decked out in hello kitty characters and very pink and bright and oh-so-cute. :-)
anyways, that's it for this week. this morning we took a taxi to work cuz we were just that lazy. :-P haha. so much quicker and more comfortable than the uber crowded mtr. :-) tonight, a bunch of us are going to taiwan, which is uber uber exciting. it's my first time. and i'll get a new stamp on my passport. w00t. :-)

on saturday, we went to chungking mansion in tst, which is like india-town. it was quite an experience... like right when you walk into this indoor mall-like building, you are immediately bombarded with people who come up to you and start pulling you towards their store or restaurant or telling you about their "guest house" on the 6th floor and how everything there is "free." sketchyyy... but anyways, we finally found the restaurant we were looking for and had some really good and really cheap indian food. mmm.... naan, my favorite. after that, we were all pretty tired so a couple of us went to get massages while vidur, amira and i went to the space museum to see a show at the planetarium... but when i say "see a show," i actually mean... buy tickets to go sit in really comfy chairs and take a nice 40-minute nap. lol. and then right after that i went to this mall with yigit and we got free massages on these osim massage chairs for like half an hour. so nice...
that night i had dinner with jae, yigit, and yigit's friend, janaki at this really nice seafood place in harbor city with an excellent view of the hong kong skyline. :-) we also got this tower (literally, it was a three-story tower), of seafood plus fries (which they called "fat chips" on their menu). mmm... so good. afterwards, we headed to volar, which is this private members-only club in lkf that we got into cuz i had met this kid from notre dame who's a member, so he got us a table in the vip room and our names on the bouncer's list. yayyy. it was pretty sweet inside... two dance floors, two bars, vip room with dom perignon champagne... quite a night, i must say. :-D
sunday was kinda a recovery day for most of us. we didn't end up heading out of our dorms until 3 in the afternoon. we then did some shopping in downtown hk and walked through hong kong park and then headed over to causeway bay to play games in this arcade for the rest of the afternoon. it was pretty sweet and pretty chill, which was nice cuz now i'm all well-rested and ready for another full week at work. bleh.

today is black friday. boo. scary.
so this week has been pretty nice and productive... i got my first big project at work and have been working on it all week. actually, i just got out of making a presentation about it to our md (managing director) and she gave me some really good feedback, which makes me happy. i feel like i'm just starting to do non-mindless tasks here and i've been interning for over a month already. lol.
one of my coworkers in my office is head of the university of notre dame alumni club here in hong kong, so he invited me to a cocktail thing they had on wednesday and i got to meet a bunch of really cool nd students and alumni. actually, one of them is a member at this private club here and he got us on the guest list and a vip room for this saturday. how sweet is that? :-D
i also went to see harry potter this week since it came out in hk on wednesday... it was pretty good, but i think i've really lost most of my interest in the world of hogwarts... and plus, daniel radcliffe has gotten so old! he looks so different from the first movie... back when they were all still cute and innocent. haha.
that's it for this week. hopefully nothing too bad will happen today. happy friday... the 13th. boo.

on saturday, i went to the kowloon walled city park with amira, yigit and janaki. so apparently, when the british still had control over hong kong, the chinese government had control over this one walled city that they used as a military base. it was converted into a park just a few years before the handover in 1997. it was probably one of the prettiest parks i've been in... there were waterfalls and pagodas and trees and statues and flowers and ponds and... *sigh*. so nice. that afternoon a bunch of us went paintballing at this airsoft place in kowloon bay. it was quite intense and just a little bit scary, but soooo much fun. oh and if you ever go, watch out cuz it actually hurts a lot when you get hit (despite being called airsoft). especially if you're hit in the head... *cough, di, cough.* that night we had dinner at jasmine, a chinese restaurant with crispy tofu, fried squid, coconut-chicken-chestnut soup, and lots more. mmmmmm...
yesterday tim, vidur, tiff, daniel, jae, jeff, diana, and i all went to ocean park, which is this amusement/theme park on the other side of the island. it's kinda like disney land, but not nearly as cool. i was really proud of myself though, cuz i went on this really scary roller coaster and was screaming the entire time and squeezing the living daylights out of jae's hand, but i got through it fine and was actually able to sort of enjoy it. maybe. lol. after some scary rides (and some not-so-scary ones), we went to the other side of the park via their cable car, which had some amazing views. then, we saw the panda bears. they were cute. almost cute enough for us to forget the fact that we had waited outside in the heat for over an hour to see them... after the park we went to this really really yummy taiwanese/shanghainese restaurant called din tai fung. it's uber famous for its xiao long bao (little pork dumplings)... so of course, we got tons of that... sooo delicious. :-)

so i don't think i've mentioned this before here, but chingy (the guy who likes to be chilling at the holidae inn) is coming to hong kong next week and playing/dj-ing at this club downtown. i happened to sign up for their mailing list online and got free tickets! :-) so i went to go pick them up yesterday during my lunch break and it was quite an adventure. first off, the street their office was located on was this really narrow road with no room for cars and a lot of little shops along the side of the road. when we finally found the building, it wasn't even really a building but just a narrow alleyway that had an elevator at the end of it with no electronic lights or buttons, so we pushed the "up" button but nothing happened and then all of a sudden... the door opens. we step in and take it up to the eighth floor and get off only to find another blank door that says 805 but has no signs of anything chingy-related or just anything at all. very sketchy. i must say, if i wasn't with someone else at the time, i would have turned right around and darted out of there. but we knocked on the door and went in to find a really nice office with people who spoke perfect english and gave me my free ticket! :-) i asked for a few more, so hopefully a bunch of us can all go and see chingy... i like the way you do that right thurr (right thurr).
and since yesterday was july 4th, all of us yalies decided to celebrate by watching the symphony of lights show and then going to eat authentic "american" food at california pizza kitchen. haha... "american" food... whatever that means. it was perfect because the show happened to be in english that night and they had added pyrotechnics from both sides of the harbor. :-) dinner was really awesome too, especially since we had such a good turnout (almost everyone in the program). yay. happy 231st birthday, america.
i can't believe we've been here for a month already. just the other day i was walking through the subway station and saw these tourists analyzing the map and trying to figure out which exit to get out of and how to get where they wanted to go and i was like, wow... i've really adjusted well to this city. much more quickly than i thought i would. i mean, i still remember the first time i rode the mtr with my octopus card and didn't even know that you're supposed to scan the card on the card reader rather than inserting it into the same slot that people insert their one-time-ride tickets. it's amazing how much i've done and seen and learned this past month, and it's hard to believe i'll only have one more month to do all the other amazing things that have yet to be done here.
wow. (or as yigit would say... vow.)

last friday after work, yigit, jae, david and i took the ferry (actually, it's called a turbo-jet) to macau. we had made reservations at this hotel called "new century" but when we got there, we found out that it actually houses this casino called "greek mythology" as well so there were statues of greek gods and goddesses everywhere. that pretty much made my day. after checking in we headed out to all the casinos in macau's downtown area. at first, i won about $80 hkd with the slot machines but by the end of the night i was at a net -$120. :-( it's aight though, it was lots of fun just watching other people win (and lose) loads of money. afterwards, we headed back for some quality time with zeus and company.
we then spent all day saturday walking around macau and exploring the city. it's quite different from hong kong... a lot more reminiscent of china, portuguese signs everywhere, and really cool food markets with all kinds of snacks. then we took mr. turbo-jet back to hong kong and met up with the others at fong underground (the same club we were at last week) yet again. talk about deja vu. :-P
sunday was the 10th anniversary of when hong kong was returned to china, so there were marches, protests, and celebrations all throughout the city. we spent most of the day at hong kong stadium watching the reunification cup games from a hospitality suite kindly provided by bob morse of citi. it was pretty sweet... good view, free food, air-conditioned, and just for the bulldogs. :-) that night, we saw the fireworks and lights show in a crowd of probably at least a million people. the subway was the most crowded i have ever seen in hk... like rush hour times ten. ridic, simply ridic.
and since the anniversary was on sunday, we had a public holiday yesterday, which meant no work! :-) so jason, vidur, alvin, david, lin, jae, yigit, di and i headed to shek o beach on the east side of the island. it was kinda crowded but still very relaxing and a good way to just chill out for the day. except maybe for the fact that i was the only girl there with 8 guys and i kinda felt like their mother. (maybe it was because i was near the food so they kept asking me to pass them stuff) lol. we probly would have stayed longer except for the fact that it started thunderstorming around 5-ish and they made this announcement that was like, "please evacuate the beach IMMEDIATELY," so we headed back for a quiet night in and a happy ending to our three-day weekend. :-)

happy
first off, yigit and jae both ditched me so i had to brave the waters all by myself, which wouldn't have been that bad at all except for the fact that it was POURING outside. (rain, that is.) i had to walk through pools, which were actually more like lakes, of water in order to get to the mtr station. then i had to figure out a way to put my soaking wet flip flops into my bag (cuz i always change into my heels on the subway) so i made my way down to this grocery store and stole one of their bags from where they sell apples (and tried to avoid the two people who were actually buying apples and wondering why i was stealing a crappy plastic bag from the store). then i went down to the tracks only to have this guy and his two sons push by me in order to squeeze onto the train, leaving me behind to wait for the next one, which was equally crowded. once i got on the train, there were a few really old guys that got on a few stations later and all stood in row but didn't hold onto anything (probly cuz they thought they were oh-so-cool). then the train started and it was like the domino effect... sooo hilarious. boop boop boop. and they all fell down.
anyways, right before coming into my station, the train just stopped in the middle of a tunnel and i got to hear the really cool british mtr lady say something i had never heard before (it was like uber exciting... you have no idea). she asked me to please accept her apologies for the delay. :-) then after finally getting to my station, changing out of my still-soaked flip flops and then walking out of the station, i realized that it was still POURING outside and i still had a ways to go before getting to citibank tower. so i made my way to the one street we have to cross, but couldn't make it across in time since i decided not to run considering it was wet, i was in heels, and hk drivers are not all that nice. i stood at the sidewalk until the next time it turned green and as i was standing there, this massive bus came THIS close (okay so i can't make the hand gesture, but it was really close, i promise) to getting water all over me (except for the fact that this really nice girl said something in cantonese to me that i couldn't understand so i moved closer to her to hear her better and just barely missed the bus drenching me). nonetheless, i made my way into the citibank building eventually and arrived at my very-well-air-conditioned desk... wet... cold... and just a lil' bit cranky. (oh and p.s: a few of these things may be a little exaggerated, but i promise just a little... it was still quite an adventure.)
as for the rest of this week... i went to a night market monday after work and got to hear some of the other bulldogs get their fortunes told by this palm-reading, face-reading tarot-card-playing psychic. it was kinda cool until you realize after the third or fourth person that he says pretty much the same things to everyone. yesterday the citi interns got to tour the hk stock exchange and hk monetary authority so now we know how to make counterfeit money. yesss. then, after work, we all went to robert morse's house for a cocktail reception. for those who don't know mr. morse is the ceo of citigroup asia pacific and a yale alum. his daughter actually goes to yale now and is coincidentally in stiles 2010 with me. we got to see his massive house (massive for hk, but not all that massive) and gorgeous view from the swimming pool in the backyard. we also got some very attractive t-shirts with our faces printed on them. i tried mingling and meeting people (all the citi interns were there as well as all the bulldogs), but i've forgotten pretty much all their names by now. oops. maybe it's all the water in my head from this morning...

as for the rest of the weekend and our first scam: on saturday, after a delicious meal of dim sum, we decided to go play laser tag, found a website online with the address of this "megazone" place in tst and headed over. when we finally found the building whose basement supposedly housed this "megazone," we went in to ask the guards, who went on to inform us that there had never been a laser tag place there and their basement had been empty for multiple years now... wonderful. so we opted for an educational tour of the museum of hk history before meeting up at xiao nan guo for some really nice shanghai food.
now for scam number two: on sunday, we spent the day in causeway bay, wandering around times square and eating some mango-goodness at hui lao shan (still my favorite dessert place in hk). for dinner, david had picked out a really cool taiwanese place that was supposedly one of jackie chan's favorite places. so we walked around and finally found what we thought was the right address except for the fact that it was a shark-fin place and not the taiwanese restaurant we were looking for. soooo, we decided to whip out our trusty lonely planet guide (which has helped us oh-so-much) and called up the restaurant to ask for directions. as lin was using his mad mandarin skills to talk with the hostess in what we thought was the taiwanese place, a lady poked her head out of the shark-fin restaurant and was like, "why don't you just come in to talk to me?" apparently the taiwanese place had gone out of business quite some time ago... wonderful. so instead we headed across the street to an "authentic" korean barbeque place and had lots of kim-cheeeee. :-)
and now it's monday. back to work.

we basically spent the entire afternoon out there, swimming, banana-boating, eating, chillaxing and just soaking up the sun. it was incredibly relaxing. later, as it was getting dark, they served us dinner as we headed back to shore. i guess that must be what yale alums are all about: taking people out in their yacht, lying out in the sun with a can of heineken, riding a banana boat in a huge bay, and watching the sunset from the roof of their boat.
dang... what a life.

later that night we went up to victoria's peak (one of the highest points in hk) and got to see an amazing night view of hk island. gorgeous, for real. after getting yelled at and kicked out by the guards for holding them up by taking a bazillion pictures, we headed over to lan kwai fong (basically the clubbing district for expats). we got some stuff from the seven-eleven to pre-game with as we walked around looking for a bar. after eating through a couple bowls of peanuts and bar-hopping a little, we got into this club called fong and partied it up with some sketchy sketchy expats. :-P quite a night, i must say.
sunday was pretty much wasted since i didn't wake up until 1pm, but then we wandered around harbor city (a massive mall) and spent some quality time in the toys r us (where we had a mini hula-hooping contest and drew on quite an audience). later, we got to see the "Symphony of Lights" show, which is when all the buildings on hk island coordinate their lights at night for a show with commentary, music, and all that jazz. we had hk hot pot for dinner (not as good as sichuan hot pot, but still yummy) and then went back to city u for a night of card games, most particularly, a very intense game of kemps.
whew. what a weekend.

the rest of my first week of work was actually pretty chill. i got trained in bloomberg, which i now think is one of the coolest things ever. i met some other interns, some who are really pretentious but others who are really nice and modest. i'm probably going to be addicted to caffeine by the end of this summer since our floor has free soda and coffee machines. i learned that we're supposed to answer our phones with a really high-pitched, "hello, citi?" and i'm finally getting used to wearing heels and being pretty much the tallest person in the subway every morning.

since my internship didn't start until the following monday, i went to shenzhen for a few days to visit my grandma and her sister. we basically stayed in their apartment all day and chatted (which consisted mostly of them bombarding me with questions about every aspect of my life from how many classes i'm taking to how cute the boys are at yale to how much money I make during the school year). nonetheless, it was nice to see my grandma again and take a little break before coming back to hk to start work. the end of that first week, i basically spent wandering around hk with some other yalies, mostly amy and mitchell, who also didn't have work. we went ice-skating at this place in kowloon where there were all these mini-michelle-kwans spinning circles and doing triple axels around us. i was so jealous, not gonna lie. i used to be a michelle-kwan-wannabe too.
that first weekend we had a yummy lunch downtown with the yale club and then moved from the nice apartments in gold coast to the tiny rooms at city u, where we'll be staying for the rest of our time here. later, we went out to dinner in mong kok and wandered the wonderful streets of ladies market, where they sold everything from bags and watches to souvenirs and colorful man-thongs. we also stopped at hui lao shan, a really awesome mango dessert shop. i was kinda obsessed with it, actually, considering i went four times in just three days. on sunday, we walked around causeway bay some more and went to a really fun game arcade with shooting games, racecars, and this weird typing game where you kill the bad guys if you can type their names quick enough. afterwards, i kinda got an allergic reaction to something (i'm still not really sure what it was) and started breaking out into hives. thankfully i was with carla, a yalie who lives in hk, so she knew how to get to a hospital. we went and they gave me all these drugs. it helped a lot.

so i've never done this online blogging thing before, but i thought it'd be a good way to help me remember all the wonderful things that i'll be doing in hong kong this summer. plus, now that i have some free time at work and most websites are blocked due to our company policy, it'll give me something to do.
alrighty then, i guess i shall introduce myself.
